Al and I went to the O.C. Fair tonight to enjoy it, east some fair food, and see our photos on display. I've never entered the fair photography contest, so this was the first time I saw my photo displayed along with other AWESOME photographers (Al's was also in it this year and last year as well!). I recognized some names of people in our photography club we sometimes go to and I recognized some photos and the name of a well-known wedding photographer whose blog I sometimes follow. It was amazing to see my photograph up there in the professional category with all these AMAZING images. But next year, if we get in, Al and I will need to make our photos larger. They were some of the smallest photos there.
But another great thing happened when I came home. Al handed me a letter from a return address I didn't recognize. Thinking it was going to be a card offer or something, I kinda opened it half-heartedly and with suspicion. It was a letter from Photographer's Forum. I entered a contest a couple of months ago that I forgot about. The letter says that 3,000 entered the contest from around the world and the photo editor has selected top entries to be in the finalist group. There will be 1st through 4th place winners with 100 honorable mentions. I AM ONE OF THOSE FINALISTS!!!!!
And get this...even if I don't win, my photograph is going to be published in the Best of Photography 2008 Annual, which is a hardbound publication that is distributed to college libraries and instructors of photography, art and graphic design!
I am shocked and excited and floored and flattered. I just CANNOT believe it!
And again - it's the photo of my cousin - this photo has won an award in our city photography contest, was accepted into the O.C. Fair and is now going to be published and just might win something else! And it was taken with my Canon Rebel XTi with my new lens at the time and no flash. I was just having fun with my new lens that night and it did more for me than I'd ever imagined!

You have come so far in such a short time and I think it's great that you were enjoying yourself and shooting fun stuff when you got this image. CONGRATULATIONS girl...I remember your photo and I agree...next year make your winning photo EXTRA LARGE..ha.ha. But it still looks awesome on that wall....way to go!!!
